CaracalDB

A distributed key-value store combining ordered keys, replicated partitions and load balancing.

Motivation and approach

CaracalDB explored distributed storage with an ordered key space, range queries and replicated partitions. Automatic partitioning and load balancing were intended to spread data and work across a cluster as demand changed.

My contribution

I was one of CaracalDB’s authors and developed its networking layer. The system was built in Java using Kompics.

Outcome and current status

CaracalDB was used for my master’s thesis. The network I developed for it later led to the ICDCS 2017 paper Fast and Flexible Networking for Message-Oriented Middleware. CaracalDB is no longer developed or maintained.
