Delta Lake contributions
An open table format providing reliable transactions over data-lake files, with support for batch and streaming workloads.
Motivation and approach
Updating or deleting a few rows can otherwise require rewriting a large data file. Deletion vectors record which rows should be treated as removed, allowing those changes without immediately rewriting the file. The protocol defines how different implementations interpret the table and its changes consistently.
My contribution
My public Delta Lake work focuses mainly on deletion vectors and the protocol. This is one part of my role at Databricks; much of my other work is internal.
Current status
Delta Lake continues to be actively developed as an open-source project.
